Parents and Staff

Parental Involvement

At First Steps we believe that parental involvement is vital to the development of each child. Parents are informed about the weekly themes and are encouraged to continue the learning at home by talking to their children about what they are learning and, if possible, to send material from home that relate to the theme.

Parents are also encouraged to discuss any issues or concerns they may have, either with their child’s teacher or with the owner/principal. We have a message book, that is checked daily, in which parents can also communicate with the teachers. Newsletters are sent out regularly to inform the parents of the activities within the school, and they are also given contact numbers to ensure that they are able to make contact with the school or the owner/principal whenever they need to.

Staffing

Day-care staff members will adhere to the duties and responsibilities as outlined in their job description. Staff training and professional development is ongoing and will take place throughout the year.

Staff

We have a great team of trained, certified and highly experienced ECD teachers. Each staff member maintains a valid First Aid Certificate. Many of the staff have worked in the childcare field for many years and continuously upgrade their training through workshops, conferences, independent study, and researching topics of interest.

Students

From time to time, the day-care will accept students seeking work experience and ECD practicum students. We will introduce them to you, and your child, as they arrive at the day-care. They will have cleared criminal record checks prior to attending

Volunteers

An interview is carried out by the Principal. This includes a criminal record search of all possible volunteers. To ensure that security is maintained, the number of volunteers and students will be limited.

Substitutes

Qualified substitute staff will be called in when permanent staff are away in order to maintain effective teaching and learning.
